Barbur presents a screening of Tod Haynes's masterful movie "Safe" (1995), starring Julianne Moore. The movie tells the story of Carol, a rich housewife that falls prey to a mysterious illness. It describes an interesting phenomenon called "Environmental Illness," but much more than that is a searing and brutal description of American society. The movie has been described as a horror movie of the soul and offers an look at various New-Age phenomena and at estrangement and lack of meaning in Western society.
