PresenTense, in cooperation with ha'Midrasha l'Filosofia, hosts Professor Kalman Kaplan, who will discuss healing the rift between religion and mental health. Professor Kaplan "aims to take the wisdom of the biblical traditions and put it back into mental health.” He uses biblical stories and applies them to various mental health issues.
Dr. Kaplan is Professor of Clinical Psychology in
both the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Medical
Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine,
and Director of the Program in Religion, Spirituality and Mental Health.
Dr.
Kaplan is a social and developmental psychologist as well as a licensed
clinical psychologist and has published widely in the areas of
interpersonal and international relations, life-span developmental
psychology, specifically concentrating on aging, family theory and
therapy, in the emerging field of biblical psychology, in transactional
analysis in schizophrenia, and in suicide/suicide prevention.
