The Hebrew Singer with Yael Badihi: Seventh Session

The Hebrew Singer with Yael Badihi: Seventh Session בתאריך 08.05.2009

Friday may 8th

Yael Badihi has been hosting musical gatherings on the porch of her Nataf home since May 2008, and for the Jewish year 5769 (2008-2009), Badihi is embarking an ambitious yearlong exploration of that most crucial aspect of Israeli national identity and culture: the Hebrew song and the iconic men and women who performed them. Why do Israelis love to sing Russian songs? Which Israeli songs have their roots in Arabic songs? When did Jews begin to sing in Yiddish? Which popular song got its start as a German cigarette jingle? Badihi answers all these questions and more with plenty of musical accompaniment in seven sessions throughout the coming year. Call 02-534-4773 for registration and more information.

The seventh and final session looks at the flowering of classic Israeli song in the post-state era of the '50s and '60s.
