Agudat HaStudentim Jerusalem and the Jerusalem Municipality, which has chosen Education as the theme of this year's Jerusalem Day, host Student Day 2009--three days of events all over the city, with the highlight on Wednesday night, May 20-Thursday morning May 21: Laila Lavan--an all night long concert marathon in the center of town. Legendary Funk-Soul musician Macy Gray headlines this year's Laila Lavan festivities. Other performers include Yehudit Ravitz hosting Alma Zohar, Idan Reichel, Geva Alon hosting Yael Dekelbaum, Michael Grailsamer, Marsh Dondurma, and a sunrise performance with the king of Israeli rock Shalom Hanoch. In addition, in the dead of night from 2:00-4:00 a.m., young musicians will perform at various locations in the city, and there will be huge parties, walking tours of all the Jerusalem hot spots, fairs and flea markets in the center of town, sing alongs, salsa, 31 pubs with special discounts for White Night revelers. In other words: something for everyone.
Other events in conjunction with Student Day and Jerusalem Day include:
Tuesday, May 19: Start partying in the German Colony, one of Jerusalem's most picturesque and unique neighborhoods, from 17:00-23:00. Discounts for students at many stores, street performances by student bands, art fair in the Adam School courtyard, and business deal meals until 23:00 at restaurants.
Wednesday, May 20: Working and studying in Jerusalem: Agudat HaStudentim's yearly job and employment fair: a large number of companies offering hundreds of jobs specifically to students and young people, performances on the grass and an afternoon of fun. From 10:00-14:00 at Givat Ram. In addition: open houses at many academic institutions.
Thursday, May 21: After party: Pool party on Mount Scopus and free entrance for all current Hebrew University students to all sports classes and exercise rooms at the Mount Scopus and Givat Ram health clubs. From 6:00-22:00.
