Hazira presents an original theatrical dance production based on the
story by famed Israeli novelist Shai Agnon. The Mill Owner and the
Miller is a Hasidic folktale concerning a miracle performed by Rabbi
Motele from Chernobyl, considered the rabbi of both the living and the
dead. The story tells of a Chasid who would visit the rabbi every year,
but was forced one year by his own poverty to remain at home. And so
sit the Chasid, his wife and his sons in a darkened room, their oven
extinguished, feeling as yet-unburied dead. The Chasid, unable to bear
the sorrow in his house any longer, leaves and prays to the rabbi to
come to his aid. All of a sudden he hears the sound of a chariot drawn
by four horses and sees his rabbi, Rabbi Motele, sitting in it with one
other man. Mystery, miracles, hope and the principles of wisdom fill
this wonderful story written in the poetic language of Agnon and staged
for the first time with the combination of dance and prose.
