Shavuot at the Tower of David Museum

Shavuot at the Tower of David Museum בתאריך 28.05.2009

Thursday may 28th

The Tower of David will hold a Tikkun Leil Shavuot (night time study session), entitled "On That Night."  The theme will be "night" in Jewish thought in the Bible, in the legends of the sages and in Kabbalah.

Night is described by the kabbalists as a time that allows contact with the divine.  During the night, the state of consciousness changes and finds the path to the hidden and discovers the way to illumination.  What is the role of night in Jewish thought?  Why do we have tikkunim during the nighttime hours? What is the role of darkness in the art of poetry and literature?

The evening will be held in Hebrew.

Schedule:

22:30-23:15                There is no light except at night – From "let there be light" from the bible until the "unknown" in Kabbala. Dr Micha Ankori, psychologist and researcher of Jewish mysticism.

23:30 – 00:15              What do the deer do at night? - The night in Hebrew poetry and literature. Maayan Deck, Department of Hebrew Literature, Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  Narration by Nava Savyon
